ONTO CARTAGENA COLUMBIA!
This was definitely the hottest day. Alyssa ended up getting me a Panama hat in Columbia! Random fact: Panama hats are actually made in Ecuador. Another random fact: I wouldn't be surprised if my hat was made in China since it was so cheap (real Panama hats run for about $200).
Columbia has the nicest architecture of all the stops and probably of every place I have ever been in my life! They are world famous and are the leading exports of 2 things: Colombian Coffee and Colombian Cocaine!
The funny thing was that every country that we went to prior (Guatemala, Costa Rica, and Panama), always talked s*** about Colombian Coffee and said how theirs are made from the same wind, land, and water as Colombian Coffee but don't know why they aren't as famous. Getting to Colombia, the tour guide told us that the other countries would say that without bringing it up and that Colombian Coffee owns any other country in the world! Fun smack talk between countries.
I had 2 plans going into this country...
My first plan was to come to this country in search for some WHITE Colombian coffee to have some fun times... but the FARC was all in hiding because of the heat. well... that and the fact that the new president of Colombia is a sworn enemy of the FARC (terrorist group that likes to bomb places and kidnap people and behead officials for kicks and luls). The president apparently is doing a good job bombing them back. Oh and random fact about Cocaine... Columbia produces over 80% of the worlds market. Can I get a discount over here?
My second plan actually started in Costa Rica.. It was to find and marry a Miss Universe contestant. I was very excited about this plan but Alyssa, being the party pooper, said no. sigh.
We had to do the 3rd plan, which was a walking tour of Cartagena. Our stops were a massive fortress in the middle of the city, visit the main square of the city, shops, 3-4 churches, museums, malls, historic landmarks, drink Colombian coffee, etc etc etc. basically tour every random thing. It was fun!
The following pictures are in no real order because the tour guide was just going off on so much information, my head exploded midway through. All I know is one of the churches that we went to is the oldest in all of Latin America. There is a saint mummified in another church (Saint Peter Claver I think?). All of these churches are from the 16th and 17th centuries. We also went to 2 or 3 museums with random things in it (museum full of torture tools for which I do not know who it was for).
